MOZAMBIQUE

CMS is very excited to break the news that we have hunting rights in Chawalo safari area on the northern banks of the Zambezi River and Cahora Bassa.

Operated and hunted by good friends Carel and Anita Maartens, CMS have done several very successful hunts annually. it is simply the very finest hippo and croc hunting we have ever experienced and because of our success, and the areas close proximity to Dande we will continue to offer hunts in Chawalo.

Chawalo concession spans 25 Km of the Zambezi River, down stream, from the confluence of the Luangwa and Zambezi Rivers and 90 Km up the Luangwa, from the confluence. The total area is approximately 334 000 hectares. This is undoubtedly some of the best Hippo and Crocodile hunting to be found today due to the dozens of papayas islands which is ideal habitat for both hippo and croc. Both species are plentiful and the quality is exceptional. 14 Foot crocodiles are common (we were lucky to bag a 15ft croc every year since 2003). We also had a 100% success rate on Hippo over this time. The abundance and quality of crocs are second to none on this stretch of the Zambezi.

Leopard are plentiful and lion are on the come back for the more adventurous hunter. While plains game numbers are still to be considered less then they should be our game management efforts over the past five years are bearing fruit and plains game like Kudu, Chobe Bushbuck, Roan Antelope Duiker and Sharps Grysbok, are doing very well indeed!. The quality of the Kudu and Bushbuck taken has been exceptional. We averaged 56" on Kudu in 2008 and 16 ¼" on Bushbuck. Latey with new roads that have been opened up in the northern part of the area we have found decent numbers of reed buck and Impala also.

With abundant bird life, the atmosphere on the river is amazing. We also offer Tiger fishing and wing Shooting from this location, to make a visit to our Chawalo Safari Lodge on the Zambezi River an unforgettable experience.

CAMPS

We have two camps in the area. Chawalo camp is the main camp and is situated on the Northern bank of the Mighty Zambezi River, 15km East (down stream) from the district capital of Zumbo. Zumbo is on the confluence of the Zambezi and the Luangwa Rivers. It is a very comfortable camp with chalet styled rooms with ensuite showers and loos. There are fans in each room which makes a big difference in the warmer summer months as does the splash pool  adjacent to the magnificent dinning area over looking the Zambezi

For the croc and hippo hunters Chawalo camp is where most choose to hunt from as it offers the might Zambezi and its islands mere minuits boat ride from the camp.

The second camp we have in Mururu fly camp which a basic fly camp situated  near the western boundary of our area and in close proximity to the luanga river. The camp has been put up under some beautiful mahoganny trees ( called Mururu in local language- hence the name)  and near a stunning old nunary that the Portugues catholic nuns erected in the early part of the centuray as this route was  well used  by the ivory and slave traders alike on there way down to Zumbo which is the confluence of the Zambezi and Luangwa rivers and where they sold their “goods”.

While camp is basic clients have their own tents with ensuite loos and  hot showers and the dinning area is thatched. The camp is solar powered. Hunts from this camp are for the more adventurous and offers the opportunity of exploring realtively unhunted areas and access to hunting hippo and croc on the luangwa river

CMS is really excited about what  the opportunity of a combined Dande and Chawalo safari can offer our clients. The two areas are only 2 hours apart by road and boat and the custom procedure are very simple to say the least making travel between the two area quick and pleasant.

Been a new area and with relatively few roads in a huge concession we are selling our 1 lion and 1 elephant tag ( not exportable to us) on an exploration basis- meaning a lower daily rate and a higher trophy fee if successful. Late season lots of elephant come across the Luangwa from Zambia and there is a chance of a good elephant in this area as is the case of a  good lion. Buffalo numbers are low and as a result we are not taking any on licence in Moz until there numbers grow but do offer buffalo in the Dande.

Come join us on either a Mozambique safari or combined Dande /Chiwalo  for the hunt of a life time!!!!
