This was my second hunt with Paul Machmeier and we decided to go to Chewore South. Paul brought out a 585 which the trackers call the “bazooka”, for the elephants and a 450 dacota for buffalo. The fist day we were in the chenji jesse which is very thick looking for tuskless. We were in a herd when a cow charged us and I had to unfortunately drop her at 4 yards from us. The following day Paul had his chance on his first elephant and the 585 boomed dropping his tuskless perfectly. A couple of days later the second cow was also shot perfectly which we were very happy with as the penetration of the 750grn bullet. Penetration was over 50” which is excellent. We followed 2 dagga boys over the Chewore river and caught them in a gully. Paul decided to take the smaller of the two as he was not exporting and did not see the point of shooting the bigger bull. The bull was shot perfectly with the 450. Our last hunt was for a buffalo cow. We went down to the Mkanga valley and followed a herd of +200 buffalo and caught them on the Mkanga river. We then went down for a few days of relaxation on the river where Paul caught a few fish. Once again an absolute pleasure hunting with Paul and I look forward to his return where Paul may come out with a ‘super bazuka’ which is a 600 OK
