17 Day Hunt

First day started late, went out in afternoon looking for bait none seen.

Second day shot buffalo cow for bait and hung 4 baits, ran out of time to hang the remainder. Looked at 4 elephant bulls but nothing to shoot.

Third day, large male hit one bait, built blind sat in evening. Nothing come in.

Fourth day sat in blind in morning but nothing rest of day checking baits and looking fro buffalo.

Day five, sat in morning but nothing come back to the bait. Followed buffalo herd, unfortunately shot and lost a buffalo bull. Very little blood with hard tracking.

Day six, checked baits. Big male on another bait built blind followed up on buffalo but no luck. Sat for Leopard but nothing.

Day seven early start into the blind and at 6:10 shot a monster male leopard with 410 grain Woodleigh soft from the 416 Ruger. Test of day looked for buffalo, sable and elephant.

Days 8 to 11 spent tracking for anything that moved, very quiet.

Day twelve, 7:50 shot a good Makuti elephant +/- 35lbs.

Day thirteen, not much was seen.

Day fourteen 7am, shot 42 ½ “sable bull. Good shot with 250 grain spoor from the 338 Win.

Day fifteen, and sixteen did some walking looking for buffalo. Chased some zebra but no luck.

Day seventeen, Rex told us of a herd of buffalo that he had shot one bull out of, so we found them again and after a few stalks at 5:15pm Lynn bagged himself an awesome buffalo bull which went 42”. An awesome way to end a great 17 days.

Client Comment

What can I say that the pictures don't? An absolutely excellent hunt in every respect, marred only by the fact that I lost a buffalo due to being a bit over-eager early in the hunt. Organization and planning by Charlton-McCallum was excellent, camp was very enjoyable and pleasant, and PH Richard Tabor and his crew, along with Appy PH Blake Wilhelmi, are exceptionally knowledgeable, efficient, and a pleasure to hunt with. Makuti is a beautiful area, and the animals are there. Terrain is a little rough in places - adds to the charm. I was glad I tried to get into decent shape before going - I was almost able to keep up with boys!... Good Lord willing (and financial markets assisting!), I will definitely be coming back,
and I will be booking with Charlton-McCallum when I do.
Thanks again for everything - all the extra efforts greatly appreciated!
