Day 1: Morning collected scout, drove around and returned for lunch. Afternoon set out and shot a buffalo cow at about 4pm. Shot was 70 yards. Buffalo cow ran 100 yards and died. Excellent shot by Stuart.

Day 2: Saw Tuskless, too small and zebra but were busy hanging baits. Hung 6 baits with one spare.

Day 3: Hung more baits, saw Elephant cows but no tuskless. Got 2 female leopard on baits.

Day 4: Checked baits got 3 females and young male on bait. Glassed for Sable and Elephant. Nothing seen to shoot. After lunch, drove around to Marongora lookouts. Stalked Zebra, Stuart did another good shot at 75 yards. Zebra ran about 100 yards before dropping (more baits).

Day 5: Checked baits, big male on one bait so built a blind then checked remainder of the baits. Only females on bait, saw some Elephant cows but no tuskless. Had lunch, relaxed, got into blind at 5pm. Sat, but nothing came in.

Day 6: Early start, 2:45am. Got into the blind at 5:15am. Leopard was in the tree at 5:55am. Watched him and waited for a good shot which was at 6:10am. Sallie made a good shot with the Tom falling with a few grunts. Put an insurance shot in and all happy days. Rest of day relaxed and started dropping baits and took blind down.

Day 7: Saw Elephant in morning and afternoon. Shot a 37” Sable bull. Excellent shooting from Stuart.

Day 8: Saw Tuskless but wind messed us around. Could not get a shot.

Day 9: Saw 3 herds of Elephant, 1 tuskless but too small to shoot.

Day 10: Close but not close enough. Nearly got tuskless but again the wind was unpredictable.

Day 11 – 14: Spent glassing herds of Elephant but only small tuskless or ones with calves were seen. At the end, a great hunt with some excellent trophies. Well done to Sallie and Stuart. Shall see you next year.

This is our second safari with Charlton McCallum Safaris. We doubted the first could be matched in quality as it was the very best of 7 African hunts. Rich Tabor pulled it off with another great safari, including a magnificent leopard shot by Sallie.
