It was as always my and the companies pleasure to have Kate and Ike out again to the hills of Makuti. We were originally booked to hunt 3 dugga boys and 2 tuskless. Unfortunately Kate fell and broke her shoulder 3 months before th hunt so we had to drop her buffalo and promote her to the baboon control officer with a lesser calibre –which she did us proud on!!

During the hunt we saw many many buffalo and elephant.  The first buffalo that Ike shot was from a large herd behind camp. We tracked them for 2 hours from a spring and managed to edge up an ant hill and the last buff was a great old dugga boy which Ike shot through the top of the heart- he was a beauty 40” with 15” bosses and an added bonus was Justin got some great footage.

The next day we spotted a large tuskless on top of a major hill! Criton went up to encourage the eles to come down while we walked the base hoping to intercept them. We did see a massive warthog which I begged Ike to shoot but he had set his sights on the old tuskless which managed to come down ahead of us resulting in a three hour tracking session before Ike gave her a perfect frontal brain shot with his Blazer 416 at 12 yards.

The next day or two we managed to collect 5 baboons thanks to Kate’s good shooting! Looking for a second old buff took us to Kate’s Spring where she got her first buff many years ago! With some amazing tracking we got to several yards from an old buff which just as Ike shot started running resulting in the shot been a little back. The follow up was very exciting in thick bush and after a few extra shot Ike had a great old Makuti buff.

The last couple of days was looking for our last tuskless that Ike wanted to shoot with his new Kriekoff double. We eventually found a herd with 6 tuskless in them at the bottom of the silent valley. We were elevated when Ike had his first shot which momentarily stumbled her and Ike did a perfect going away brain shot to finish her off.

Even before the end of the hunt we are looking forward to next years hunt which will be double buff double tuskless!

After 8 Elephant, 6 Buffalo, 1 Huge Lion , Hippo, Klipspringer , Grysbuck and many Baboon in 4 consecutive year, Kate and I are planning another year already with Buzz and his golden team of Truckers and Driver.

Early in a morning - We gather by a fire in a cold August morning with a cup of coffee and try to warm up our butt. We try to figure out how many lion might have been around our camp to wake us up in a middle of night. And those noisy hyena last night - oh how we all wish to be able to see them during a daytime.

This is how our hunt start every morning - right around a camp fire. Early in a morning, and try to do it again and again.
