We had a good traditional and physical elephant hunt, walking 113kms in 10 days. It was hot and steamy for most of the hunt, luckily with little rain. And the jesse was very thick.

The first bull we spotted at 3pm on the 3rd day amongst a herd of about 15 cows. After shadowing the herd for 1.5 hours we finally got into a position to shoot. Phil shot him 30 paces with a perfect side brain shot. We then decided to take a second bull. So we then went to Pedza for 3 days and hunted 3 days in Ward 11. Lots of cows and young bulls seen – no shooters. Back to Karunga for last 3 days. The elephant had started coming in from Mozambique with some very good bull tracks seen. Lots of walking every day.

On the last afternoon we followed a big bull (+/-60lbs) that we saw from the road. He led us into a big herd of cows that we could not get through to get to him. Anyway we had to leave as it was getting dark. On the way to the road we bumped into 12 bulls. They filed past and the best bull (+/-40lbs) obligingly charged us. Phil stopped him at 12 paces.

Amazing finish to a great hunt!!

Hunted 2 different areas and saw or tracked elephant everyday. Areas we hunted in were a combination of thick jesse and nice open bush. The 3rd day I shot a very nice bull of long ivory in the 40lbs+ class. On the very last day in the last light we walked into 12 bulls. One of the bulls in the 35-40lbs class charged. I was able to stop him with a frontal shot at 12 paces.

Very exciting hunt. Hard working trackers, PH and staff.
