On the 30th July we went for a walk along a ridge and saw a shootable tuskless in a valley below us. We approached to +/-20 yards, where upon the cow heard us, turned and walked towards us. Larry shot her with his 500 at 16 yards frontal. He missed the brain, but put in a shoulder sot as she turned, she went only a further 10 yards and fell down. A finishing shot was then administered.
We shot a good zebra stallion on the 1st August at about 70 yards with the .378 Weatherby using lion loads (A-Square). The zebra ran 100 yards and died. The entry hole in the should was large +/- 2 inches in diameter, through which the bottom half of the heart fell out whilst loading the zebra in the truck. The bullet did not exit, but could not be found.
On the 4th August, Larry wounded a buffalo bull at +/- 30 yards with .378. A tree limb was hit in front of the animal and the bullet (dead tough A-Square) hit the buffalo low in the chest. We continued to follow until dark and then followed for 2 more days, killing it on the afternoon of the 2nd day. A good heart lung shot at +/- 80 yards. We had a lot of really up close work with the herd (+/- 70 Buffalo) trying to certain of the correct bull before shooting it. |
