Just returned from the most difficult hunt of my life! The Zambezi Valley
is HOT in November!!!!! Daily temperatures ranged from 110-119 F over the
14 days in the valley. Nights were just a little better in the low 90's.
The Jess bush is thick, thick and more thick. One has to get in Up-Close and
Personal (25 yds or less) to determine the suitability for shooting a
tuskless elephant, 156 to be exact. My hunting partner shot his on the 7th
day at 12 yds! I collected mine on the 13th day at the rather long yardage
of 24 yds. Given the opportunity I would hunt tuskless elephant
exclusively! Not only is the hunt challenging, it is also conservation
supportive of controlling the population to help maintain a balance of food
and land mass for these huge animals as well as providing large amounts of
meat for the natives in the area. CM (Buzz Charlton and Myles McCallum)
Safaris and especially our PH Rex Hoets provided a quality camp, a fair
chase hunt and a memory of a life time.
To this point of my hunting career, this hunt from my view point was the most demanding physically, due to the heat.
Rex as our PH (Bob’s and mine) spared no effort to provide both of us a top quality hunt.
I very much appreciated his experience and guidance.
It would be an honour to again hunt with Rex.
